I was incredibly proud to walk through and experience the 2022 Gosford Art Prize, with so many artists from the KAB Gallery stable hanging as finalists. The Gosford Art Prize is the premier art prize of the Central Coast region, with local and national artists engaging in the competition. The exhibition of finalists showcases art by artists from across the nation competing for over $25,000 in prizes.

Prizes

  • First Prize – $15,000
  • Second Prize – $5,000
  • Aboriginal Artist Prize – $2,500
  • Gosford Ceramics Prize – $2,000
  • Highly Commended – $1,000 (two prizes)
  • Viewer’s Choice Award – $500 gift voucher

Prizes are awarded for 2-dimensional artworks (including painting, drawing, printing, and mixed media), photography & digital media, sculpture and ceramics.

With so many artists entering the annual prize, a sense of excitement lingers every year as we wait for the list of Finalists to be announced. KAB Gallery is so proud of our artists who have been selected as finalists.

Congratulations to our 2022 FINALISTS

Jacki Fewtrell-Gobert, Kelly-Anne Love, Cathryn McEwen, Penelope Oates, & Sally West

Jacki Fewtrell-Gobert is a repeat Finalist in the Gosford Art Prize. This moody landscape with a unique composition is very engaging. Her approach to landscape is similar to her interior artworks, loaded with vibrancy and painterly style.

Kelly-Anne Love is a four-time finalist of the Gosford Art Prize, a fantastic achievement for such a prestigious competition.

“This self-portrait is to share a snapshot of a 21st century artist in her studio. I spent many hours trying to capture the energy and details. My place of creative sanctuary surrounded by waving lucky cats, special trinkets, passed exhibition flyers and promotional materials (Australian Reptile Park, Aussie Ark, KAB Gallery, Anala Art, Haus Creative and many more), and product collaborations (Six Strings beer cans, Redhead matchbox, album covers) as well as family photos, crystals, Ganges water, incenses, smudges, a weathered calendar with captured yearly moments, kids drawings, Buddhas , newspaper articles, art, and of course paints, brushes and more” Kelly-Anne Love, 2022

Cathryn McEwen‘s unmissable piece this year was well received by audiences visiting the Prize.  I was personally taken with this intricate painting and witnessed many viewers stop and admire this piece up close. It is certainly an artwork to observe in the flesh and enjoy.

Penelope Oates artwork sold during the Finalists Exhibition. Last year she also won the People’s Choice Award. Her detailed and layered mixed media works have such broad appeal.

Sally West‘s Finalist piece was created with world renown violinist Tahlia Petrosian performing for the sitting. An incredible experience which resulted in a stunningly moving artwork.

Congratulations to the 2022 Gosford Art Prize Winner, Claire Tozer, for her artwork “Web”

Second Prize was awarded to Central Coast artist Muamer Cajic for his work titled Inselberg, colour pencil on paper, 74cm x 86cm which is a wonderfully skilled drawing exploring the body as a resilient carrier, intimately connected to the mind.

Other prizes winners include:

Aboriginal Artist Prize – $2,500, Charmaine Davis

Highly Commended Art Prize – $1,000 each awarded to  Ali Tahayori  and Karen Coull

Gosford Ceramics Prize – $2,500, David Boyle and the Highly Commended Ceramic Prize – $1,000 to Peter Steggall

The winning works were chosen by judges Emily Rolfe and Vicki Grima. Their comment puclished on the council website ‘overall, the selected prize-winning works were strong, showing a high degree of skill, consideration and integrity. They are impressive works’.
