Whale watching season is in full swing on the Central Coast, and if you’ve visited Terrigal recently, chances are you’ve already caught sight of the humpback whales breaching just off the coast. The Skillion, a stone’s throw from KAB Gallery, offers one of the best whale-watching spots in Terrigal, giving ocean lovers a front-row seat to the annual Humpback whale migration. We colloquially refer it to our location as the “Humpback Highway”. It is a beautiful and inspiring vantage point. KAB Gallery artist, Kelly-Anne Love, is internationally loved for her watercolour paintings of whales. She is an avid whale watcher and brings them to life with her contemporary watercolour and ink artworks.

But why stop at just watching? Take the experience home with you by exploring our exclusive collection of contemporary whale paintings by Australian artist Kelly-Anne Love, now available at KAB Gallery Terrigal.

Whale Watching Central Coast

Every year, from May to November, the Humpback and Southern Right whales pass through the waters off the Central Coast as part of their incredible migration journey. From the windows of our gallery at Terrigal, or anywhere along Terrigal Beach and The Haven, you can easily spot the tell-tale spray of these gentle giants as they make their way north and south. For an even closer look, Terrigal Ocean Tours offers eco-certified whale watching tours that give you the chance to experience these majestic creatures up close. I have been on this tour a few times and it is an amazing experience. The whales are very curious and seem to enjoy taking a closer look at us while splashing and playing on the water surface. It is magic!

As a gallery perfectly positioned in the heart of Terrigal, we’re fortunate to witness this natural spectacle daily—and it’s inspired us to exhibit artwork that celebrates the whales and their travels. Kelly-Anne Love is very spiritually connected with nature and has a real passion for the subjects she paints. Her whale paintings offer a beautiful sense of positivity and respect for these special creatures.

Kelly-Anne Love’s Watercolour Whales

At KAB Gallery Terrigal, we’re excited to present a series of contemporary watercolour paintings by Kelly-Anne Love. These artworks celebrate the joy we have seeing them here on the coast and captures their movement and presence in a way that brings you into their underwater world. Kelly-Anne’s unique and contemporary use of watercolour creates a gorgeous, fluid effect that reflects the whales’ graceful swimming dance through the ocean waters. With her painting style, you will notice that the water colours aren’t typically transparent and have a unique glamour to them. Her incorporation of bold black outlines along with a skilful use of drawing and application of the watercolour paint combined with loose drips and splatters, makes her artworks stand-out. Whether you’re an avid whale-watcher or simply appreciate the awe of marine life, these paintings are beautiful and offer a connection to nature for you to take into your home.
