“I took a limited amount of painting supplies and rented a car to move around. I took an extensive amount of photographs and barely knew where I was at any given time. I got completely lost. The weather kept changing and I took these images back to my studio to produce these 3 pieces.”

The Bellarine Peninsula, located just an hour south-west of Melbourne, is loved because it is one of Victoria’s most picturesque coastal regions. With its pretty beaches, charming wineries, and relaxed vibe, Bellarine won’t stay a secret for long. It’s now attracting attention from across the country and it’s no surprise that an artist like Sally West, with such a strong connection to the Australian coastline, would be drawn to the vista.

Her Beach Series is instantly recognisable for its thick, expressive textures and muted colour palette. Each work illustrates not just a view, but a feeling—the warmth of the sun or the crisp winds, the salt in the air, the laid-back energy of a perfect day on the coast. To see this technique applied to a Victorian setting like Bellarine brings a fresh perspective to her practice, making these paintings especially significant for the long-time followers and collectors of her work.

If you’ve been waiting for a Sally West original with a unique twist, this could be the one. It’s coastal, it’s collectable, and it’s a rare glimpse of Victoria through Sally’s eyes.
