Balmoral Beach Captured by Sally West for a Special Commission

Balmoral Beach is one of Sydney’s beach jewels, and you can easily see why. Balmoral is as expansive as most of the city’s ocean beaches but its harbourside position means it is shielded from winds and big waves. The calm waters provide a sheltered swimming enclosure and lovely picnic spots.

Many Sydneysiders will happily tell you of fond memories and pastimes there. Weekends with the family, morning jogs, walks at dusk, hot fish & chips even a quick stop to enjoy the view. 

It was surprising that Sally West had not painted the Sydney location until a recent special commission was requested through KAB Gallery. Commissions are a great opportunity for our clients to have something custom created but they are also great opportunities for the artist to discover new possibilities. This is exactly what happened earlier this year with a special Balmoral request by our lovely client. The brief was set based on the clients love for the location and her personal pastimes spent there with her young family. Their life was captured in paint by Sally West, symbolized through the location, viewpoint, landscape inclusions and the nostalgic summer atmosphere illustrated in the piece.

As part of this Balmoral Beach project, Sally West’s independent research of the location involved the creation of a series of drawings and oil painted studies on paper. While the drawings will not be available for purchase we were pleased to have these gorgeous painted oil studies professionally mounted and now available on display at our beautiful Terrigal art gallery.
