Helena McConochie is a renowned Australian artist known for her evocative depictions of flora, which imbue any space with a sense of warmth and vitality. Her style draws inspiration from classical masters Johannes Vermeer and Henri Rosseau, as well as the modernist artist Georgia O’Keefe. McConochie pays homage to the beautiful sense of rhythm, movement, colour and depth of O’Keefe’s iconic artworks, whilst adding her own original flair to her floral subjects. Her strict palette, utilising only white and three prime colours, reflects Helena’s deep sensitivity to colour and her technical prowess with oil paint.

McConochie’s oil painting ‘Paris’ is a testament to the artist’s distinctive style, depicting a lush floral scene of white petals against a striking navy background. Delicate touches of yellow permeate the blooming composition, whilst two water droplets sit hidden in the corner as a subtle homage to the sanctity of water in times of resource scarcity. The painting celebrates the beauty and resilience of flora with a stylish, modern flair. The scale of the painting makes ‘Paris’ an ideal centrepiece in any home, with a classic yet versatile colour scheme that is adaptable to many interior styles.

“Flowers bloom in almost every colour of the spectrum and appeal not only to the visual sense, but to the olfactory too. The fine texture and lines of a flower can easily be obtained by careful brush strokes forming the shape, modelling them, introducing the colour and creating transparency in the flower.” – Helena McConochie
