The Blue Chair by Sally West

Sally West is no stranger to still life. Her famous floral artworks and her “Natives in the Olive Jar” series sold out at KAB Gallery. She has a beautiful way of giving life to everyday inanimate objects by positioning them alongside a gorgeous bunch of flowers and painting them to enjoy forever.
Sally West always has a personal connection with the flowers she paints, whether she has picked them on a walk, received them as a gift or purchased them from her local fruit shop. Her titles such as “A Bucket Full of Manly”, “My Birthday” and “Flowers from Sunday” give hints of the story behind how each bunch have come to be the inspiration for the work. This painting includes much more than that – the composition draws together a selection of objects from her studio: a blue chair, vintage lamp, clock, nest of tables etc. As the title suggests, the blue chair is a key feature for Sally West. The chair has been in her studio as long as she can remember and while she has always intended to reupholster it she explains “it just never happened and now I might just have to keep it blue”.
