Howard Searchfield’s Ocean Paintings at KAB Gallery Terrigal & Neutral Bay

There is something universally compelling about paintings of the ocean and crashing waves. They have a way of expressing both calm and power in the same scene, and it is this balance that continues to draw both artists and collectors to coastal works time and time again. I am pleased to offer a selection of seascapes by Howard Searchfield at KAB Gallery. The works are available across my two art galleries (located at Terrigal & Neutral Bay). They are beautiful, contemporary and evoke sense of coastal retreat that we all crave.

As the NSW representatives for Searchfield, KAB Gallery are proud to share several of his original oil on canvas works for exhibition and sale. Collectors who know his work well may also be familiar with his equine studies and portrait work. While his art practice spans a range of subjects, it is the ocean subject that receives the most attention within the art prize scene. 

Guided by a genuine love of nature, his paintings explore the wild nature of the sea and tidal surf patterns.

All of Searchfield’s latest works have been catching the eye of gallery visitors. Each is presented in a contemporary trim frame and offers a distinct interpretation of the coastline, unified with his detailed style, soft use of colour and the fantastic movement within the watery scenes. The colours are incredibly appealing and, as many of our visitors have already noticed, they are easy to style within a home. These are works that not only reference the ocean, but truly bring its presence into the room.

After the Storm is a presents a more contemplative side of the ocean. Soft, layered greys and cool blues share a moody, atmospheric scene, where the swell begins to settle after a an intense wave. There is a quiet strength within this work that reveals itself slowly to you when standing in front of it. With time, you will notice the detail within the rolling waves and shifting clouds in the sky. The clouds have been painted with incredible technique and it is interesting to get up close and examine the brush strokes and various thickness of the paint in certain areas.
