Celebrating Bastille Day with Greg Jarmaine

This year KAB Gallery is showcasing a selection of French paintings by Greg Jarmaine to celebrate Bastille Day. Bastille Day is the name given in English speaking countries to the French National Day, which is celebrated on 14 July each year. In France, it is formally called La Fête Nationale (the National Celebration) and commonly Le quatorze juillet (the fourteenth of July). The French National Day commemorates the beginning of the French Revolution with the Storming of the Bastille on the 14 July 1789.

Greg Jarmaine regularly travels to Paris to visit family and loves to take his paints with him. He often paints there “en plein air,” following the well trodden footsteps of so many brilliant artists before him. His Parisian scenes capture the historical buildings, streets and obscure laneways filled with the hustle and bustle of present day Parisian life. With an accurate palette, he refers to the chromatic tones of the overcast weather and city smog, olive stone buildings and the vibrant reds that highlight Parisian restaurants and hotels.

This week I visited Greg Jarmaine’s studio. He has been working on several studio pieces to complete the exhibition and they are beautiful! I can’t reveal too much about these new pieces just yet, but I will tell you that you won’t want to miss seeing this great exhibition at KAB Gallery. Scheduled to start July 14th 2015 at KAB Gallery (19 Crowne Plaza Terrigal)
