KAB Gallery artist Aurora Paulina Kay is an en plein air painter known for her joyful, intricately layered works created entirely on location over many months. Her distinctive technique weaves unexpected colours – soft purples, crimsons and fresh greens – into familiar Sydney vistas, creating rich harmonies that reveal themselves beautifully from afar. Collectors are drawn to the way she represents everyday landscapes with vibrancy, movement and a unique emotional energy. I’m thrilled to now have a curated selection of her original paintings available at KAB Gallery’s newest location in Neutral Bay.

Each of Aurora’s paintings carries a personal narrative shaped by the mood and atmosphere of the day that she paints. Her colour choices respond intuitively to the weather, the light and the emotional connection she forms with the scene – whether it’s the calm brightness of a sunny afternoon or the gentle, reflective stillness of an overcast sky. Deeply inspired by water in all its forms, she spends hours observing shifting tides, ripples and reflections, translating those moments into artworks that feel uplifting, happy and full of life.

Aurora refined her practice at the historic Julian Ashton Art School in The Rocks, Sydney. Established in 1890, the school is recognised as Australia’s oldest continuous fine art school and is renowned for its rigorous training in drawing from life, traditional realist techniques and painting en plein air. Many celebrated Australian artists have passed through its studios, and Aurora’s work carries that same strong foundation in observation, structure and technique, combined with her own contemporary sense of colour and joy.
