Kelly-Anne Love’s latest watercolour and ink paintings are currently hanging on display at KAB Gallery Terrigal. While they are all equally impressive, I want to take this opportunity to focus your attention on two particular paintings featuring Australia’s much-loved laughing bird, the Kookaburra. Perfectly titled, “Jack” and “Fluffy” these works are catching everyone’s attention already.

Both contemporary style pieces are presented ready to enjoy in sleek black frames under glass. Signed by the artist in her subtle and chic way, they also come with KAB Gallery Certificates of Authenticity and Valuation documents, making them an excellent addition to any art collection.

Kelly-Anne Love is known for her cool, edgy approach to watercolour and her work is incredibly popular. Her pieces always feel fresh and on-trend, and we expect 2026 will be another big year for her with an exhibition and some exciting new projects on the horizon. Right now at KAB Gallery, we’ve got a great range of her bird paintings on display, including her finalists from the recent Hunters Hill Art Prize – cockatoos and an owl that have already caught the attention of collectors.

What makes these kookaburra paintings even more interesting is the story behind the bird itself. The kookaburra is as Aussie as it gets, and its laugh is one of the most recognisable sounds in the bush. But that laugh isn’t just for fun – it’s how they mark their territory. They’re also excellent hunters, with sharp eyesight and strong beaks, catching everything from insects to small lizards. Kookaburras live in tight-knit family groups, with younger birds helping raise their siblings, and they’re known to mate for life. They’re practical too, using tree hollows for nests rather than building anything fancy.

Kelly-Anne Love captures the spirit of the kookaburra perfectly in these paintings. “Jack” has this cheeky, lively energy, while “Fluffy” feels like it’s perched right in the middle of the room with us. You can really see Kelly-Anne’s knack for bringing out the personality of her subjects, all while keeping her work stylish and contemporary.

If you’re into Australian wildlife or just love a bit of modern watercolour art, these pieces are well worth a look. They’d suit a wide range of spaces and tastes, whether you’re a seasoned collector or just starting out.

Drop by KAB Gallery to see “Jack,” “Fluffy,” and more of Kelly-Anne Love’s bird series. It’s a great chance to snap up something special as she gears up for an exciting year ahead!
