Emerging & Portraits By Peter Smeeth
Just opening on the weekend, dual exhibitions at Gosford regional Art Gallery are showcasing KAB Gallery artist, Peter Smeeth’s portraits as well as their biannual Emerging Art Prize for 2015.
As Peter Smeeth said at the opening, “Sarah and Tim have been so brave to put on an exhibition solely of portraits!” With Smeeth’s distinct realist and anatomic style, the exhibition displays his paintings of many Australian greats as well as a section of the space dedicated to his family.
A humble and funny moment he shared at the opening – “There’s a reason why female artists in Australia are less represented… Because they don’t have a wife! I’d like to thank my wife for her support throughout my career.”
On the other side of the exhibition platforms a selection of seven emerging artists for 2015 – a contemporary, multi-media and immersive display of these artists current practices. Tim Braham the team leader of Gosford Regional Gallery announced the exhibition warning it may not be to everyone’s understanding but it is nevertheless an insight into the present contemporary art arising from NSW. The works featured were from artists Eliya Nikki Cohen, Ruth Feeney, Zachariah Fenn, Flatline, Maia Fung, John Moroney and Ben Soedradjit. The winner of the $3000 prize was Sydney-based performance group, Flatline sponsored by the Friends of Gosford Regional Gallery.
We highly recommend visiting these two diverse exhibitions and supporting the Gosford Regional Gallery.
