“Maggies Blue Chair” by Wendi Leigh is a welcomed new art arrival at KAB Gallery Sydney. This unique contemporary work captures a lovely sense of Australian lifestyle by blending nature with contemporary interior design. The magpie, a familiar presence in our backyards and parks, is perched on a modern blue chair, while the lush monstera plant spills vibrantly across the canvas. It’s a scene that feels both stylish and familiar, evoking a relaxed, airy feel of an Australian home where nature is never too far away. I love the way light and shadow play across the composition in both warm and cool tones. The background layers are more obvious in person and they add to its warmth, making it easy to imagine this piece hanging in a coastal home or modern urban apartment.

The artist, Wendi Leigh, has created an entire body of work on the subject and explains how it “shows just some of the interactions that we have with the naturalistic side of our instincts, understanding and living in harmony with the beauty and wonder of creation and sharing our ‘home’ with Australian flora and fauna.”

The balance of solid colour shapes and soft shading creates a striking yet calming mood to the work, making it an ideal statement piece for interior styling.

I personally like the mix of indoor and outdoor elements, coupled with the unique perspective on everyday life. I know it will resonate with collectors in search of something both beautiful and meaningful.
