Original watercolour painting. Framed in a contemporary wood with white wash frame under glass, measuring 69x78cm.
Biggs’ love for nature is her main source of inspiration. She mainly paints through her garden, which is her main source of inspiration.
The name of this piece refers to the small, yellow butterfly resting on one of the rose petals.
The Eurema smilax, is commonly known as the Small Grass Yellow butterfly. It is a delicate species found across Australia and parts of Asia. Recognised for its vivid yellow wings edged with fine black markings, it is often seen dancing lightly above grassy areas and feeding on wildflowers. Its name reflects both its genus (Eurema), which includes many of the bright yellow butterflies, and Smilax, the host plant family vital to its lifecycle. Belinda Biggs blends the precision of natural history illustration with the elegance of fine art. The result is a work that not only celebrates the butterfly’s beauty but also appeals to collectors who appreciate art inspired by the natural world, making it a timeless piece for any collection.
