The vibrant spirit of Sydney’s famed shorelines is where Sally West finds her muse. She enjoys all the iconic beaches for both leisure for her painting practice. A dedicated plein air artist, she skillfully translates the essence of the beach onto her canvas, capturing the energy of the waves, the warmth of the sand, and the unmistakable coastal charm.

A few years ago, West focused on the subject of Freshwater Beach. Colloquially known as “Freshy,” a popular Sydney gem nestled along the sun-kissed stretch of Sydney’s Northern Beaches. It was here that her internationally celebrated beach series began as she painted en plein air from a position high up on a rock platform, giving her the perfect aerial perspective to paint the beach while overlooking the surfers and swimmers.

Over the past few summers the series has evolved in various ways and this year she is taking her easel to more of Australia’s famous beach locations incl. Avoca, Manly, Coogee, Maroubra, Bondi, Terrigal, Balmoral and Blueys Beach. She also will be working on a small set of particularly large paintings. One painting is planned to span nearly three metres wide and another will be made up of three large canvases to work as a diptych.

The series is in a constant state of flux and any new artworks are added here for your viewing and purchase. West’s Beach Series is exclusively sold at KAB Gallery. By purchasing at KAB Gallery you can enjoy your artwork knowing that it is an original on-of-a-kind artwork direct from her easel. Prints are not permitted by Sally West but included in the series are coveted original oil studies.
