Norman Lindsay

  (1879-1969)

Norman Lindsay is widely regarded to be one of Australia’s greatest artists. He produced a vast body of work in different media, including pen ink drawings, etchings, watercolours, oil paintings and sculptures in concrete and bronze.

His subjects varied from political caricatures, whimsical cats to elaborate figurative works. His sumptuous nudes were highly controversial. In 1939, several of his works were burned by United States authorities who discovered them when the train in which they were traveling caught fire.

A large body of his work is housed in his former home at Faulconbridge, New South Wales, now the Norman Lindsay Gallery and Museum, and many works reside in private and corporate collections. His art continues to climb in value today.
