Johnny Romeo

Johnny Romeo is an internationally acclaimed Australian painter and a leading figure in contemporary Pop art. Associated with the global Neo-Expressionist Pop movement, Romeo fuses the visual language of comic books, advertising and street culture with the irreverent energy of rock and roll. His bold, neon-drenched works balance playful excess with sharp social critique, a style GQ Australia famously described as “part punk, part pop.”

Romeo’s signature Kitsch Pop paintings explore identity, celebrity culture and the pressures of life in an image-saturated digital world. Through graphic compositions and familiar cultural symbols, he transforms popular media into ironic and often subversive reflections on contemporary society.

Over the past decade, Romeo has presented critically acclaimed and sold-out exhibitions across Australia, New Zealand and the United States, including New York, Los Angeles and New Orleans. He has been featured in major exhibitions alongside artists such as Banksy, Blek le Rat and Swoon, and has exhibited with international figures including Damien Hirst and Jeff Koons. His work is held in prominent public and private collections worldwide and is widely sought after by collectors.
