Fiona Clark

Over a decade of Art: Est. 2013

Fiona Clark is a highly accomplished seascape artist, whose primary focus is on the dramatic oceanscapes, as well as the more tranquil coastal waters. Her painting technique involves using oils and referencing her plein air sketches and regular visits to coastal locations close to her home. In recognition of her exceptional work, Fiona was delighted to win first prize at the Port Stephens Art Prize 2023 and to be selected as a finalist in the prestigious Hunter Emerging Art Prize in 2021 & 2022.

As an emerging artist residing in Newcastle, Fiona is inspired by the Newcastle and Hunter coastline. Her work beautifully captures the colour, light and movement of water. Fiona’s unique perspective on this timeless subject matter is modern and contemporary, reflecting her artistic vision.

Fiona has extensive experience working in creative environments. She has previously worked as an art director in advertising in Sydney, Melbourne, and the UK. Additionally, she ran her own business in web and graphic design while teaching in Melbourne. Currently, Fiona continues to teach graphic design at Hunter TAFE, Newcastle.

In 2018, Fiona returned to her art studies and attended oil painting classes in Melbourne with artist John Lawry. She is continually refining her skills and regularly participates in plein-air painting outings with local artists. Fiona is a member of the Society of Artists, Newcastle. In 2022, she had the opportunity of being an artist-in-residence at Nobbys Lighthouse, joining Lighthouse Arts for six weeks.

Fiona works from her home studio and is dedicated to creating a body of work for her first solo exhibition. Her passion for the seascape genre is apparent in her work, which is characterized by its exceptional quality, beauty, and artistic vision.
