Why we love it

The colour in Kelp V is exceptional. From a distance it reads as a bold contemporary landscape, but up close the layers, lines and unexpected details become increasingly apparent. The black frame gives the work a crisp finish and allows those vibrant reds, purples and turquoise tones to really stand out.

Kelp V by Australian artist Dave Collins is an expressive contemporary landscape alive with colour, movement and layered detail.

Working in acrylic on board, Collins interprets the forms and rhythms of kelp through a rich palette of crimson, magenta, violet, orange and turquoise. Dark organic lines move across the composition, creating intricate shapes and passages that invite closer viewing, while the cool aqua above provides a beautiful counterpoint to the intensity below.

At 76 x 104cm, Kelp V has excellent presence on the wall. The horizontal format and strong colour make it particularly effective above a console, sofa or sideboard, while its combination of landscape references and abstraction gives it versatility within both contemporary and more eclectic interiors.
