Cathryn McEwen’s Bees Knees is a contemporary still life detail that features her latest art series focus on light and reflection. Painted in oil, this work features vintage glass bottles, with one delicately adorned by a bee design — the title “Bees Knees” is a playful nod to this detail.
Much like her water-inspired series, McEwen’s attention is drawn to the way light filters through transparent surfaces. In Bees Knees, the bottles shimmer with shifting tones as colour bends, reflects and overlaps. Subtle highlights and shadows create depth, while the bee motif adds a touch of charm and individuality.
