Helen McCullagh is a popular Australian artist known for her bright, contemporary and aesthetically beautiful still life oil paintings. Her colours are fresh and Matisse inspired.
She also draws inspiration from beautiful floral arrangements set in her studio combined with images found on online media. Helen describes her artworks as a “dialogue between social realities with images chosen through social media feeds and reproduced in a new context to distort the distinctions of time and place.”
Her application of paint is initially thick, with more luscious glazes layered upon these solid foundations. Helen reinterprets the still life genre in a modern context.
