Sally West’s Solo Exhibition is open for viewing at KAB Gallery – Wednesday 7th to Sunday 18th June.

Sally West: Figurative Focus

The exhibition was celebrated with a special Meet-the-Artist event held on Saturday 10th June. Sally West was welcomed to KAB Gallery by creative fans and art collectors. Sally was humbled by the great distances audiences had traveled to see her and discuss her unique art.

For any visual artist, drawing from and understanding the figure is fundamental as a practice – a method of training the eye to see accurately and to observe emotion and gesture. Sally West is famous for her still life and landscape painting but little is known about her figurative series. This was a great opportunity to learn about the processes behind her figurative works.

The exhibition was curated by KAB Gallery Director, Kerry Blanket. “I believe that Sally West’s figurative works are a great thematic extension of her famous Beach and Sunbaker paintings. I included some of the Sunbaker and Beach Girl paintings to allow audiences to draw this parallel themselves.”

Another important part of the exhibition is Sally West’s ink and graphite works. These too are rarely exhibited but demonstrate Sally West’s understanding of form and figure. Kerry Blanket says “her ink and graphite works are so different but I think it’s important to look beyond the paint and admire the fundamental skill of life drawing”.
