“Tony is a life model at my local drawing group and this painting was done from live sittings and photographs in my studio and backyard. I have sketched him many times and this portrait is one of 5 completed paintings of Tony that I have done over the past 2 years.

Tony is a Stonemason, a Landscape Gardener and an excellent model at life drawing sessions, being statuesque at 2 meters tall and having well defined musculature.

I felt compelled to paint him because of his rugged face and furrowed brow reminiscent of a subject in a Caravaggio or Velazquez painting.”
