I am pleased to open this year’s Contempo at KAB Gallery with a series of abstract artworks by Australian artist, Kirsten Jackson. Much like herself, her art is vivid, beautiful and sparks a unique joy within people’s hearts.

Kirsten Jackson’s abstract paintings can’t be missed at the year’s Contempo at KAB Gallery

Painting for Kirsten is an essential part of her life and her process is intuitive. A spirit filled contemporary artist working with a powerful palette, Kirsten uses creativity as a positive channel to transmit her love of life via the paint and canvas. She works as often as possible in her light filled studio. Her process is extremely involved with each colourful layer worked in conjunction with the next. “I start with the canvas on the floor for a few layers then it goes on the easel for the last couple of layers! I am constantly on my knees up and down” explains Kirsten.

Abstract art is regarded as a challenging genre as there aren’t any limitations or distinctive rules, however Kirsten embraces this with creative strength. Her style is confident, bright and certainly something to be enjoyed.

Titles such as “Love you more than words can say” and “True Love” are connecting and provide insight into the conceptual process. These titles are messages hinting at the personal sentiment hidden within the abstract compositions. It has been both gratifying and exciting to see how audiences react to these titles when viewing them within KAB Gallery. Viewers often initially engage with the artworks on a purely aesthetic basis, then reengage with them on a deeper level once reading their titles.

To ensure a painting is complete and perfect, Kirsten is known to bring works into her own home, “communing with a piece for several weeks until satisfied it is truly done”. I asked her when she truley knows a painting is finished and she explains that it isn’t until it’s photographed.

No stranger to the media, Kirsten Jackson original paintings are regularly gracing the glossy pages of style magazines including popular publications like Home Beautiful, Inside Out, Real Living and Modern Home Magazine. Her works are sought after by both esteemed art collectors and top interior stylists. Recently, her paintings were hand-selected for nearly every room in Southbank’s Aria Hotel and included in style projects on Australia’s The Block television series.

“The best part of being an artist is I get to infuse many homes with colour and happiness.”

Formerly trained in visual art as a respected alumni of Australia’s RMIT, her works are exhibited and widely collected across the world. Viewers are drawn to the attractive layers of colour, energy filled compositions and unique approach to light and space. The popularity of her painting style has ensured her art is in strong demand on the art market. Be sure to consider the catalogue curated by our experts here at KAB Gallery and secure your favourite as soon as you can.

“I build layer upon layer of texture, while the colour carries emotion; capturing and reflecting light. It grows and grows until finally it explodes in a vibrant visual delight.” says Kirsten.
