Velia Newman is a female contemporary artist located on the NSW east coast. She was born with a paint brush in her hand and art in her blood, having grown up in an artistic family on Sydney’s northern beaches. Newman’s art practice started at just 9 years of age under the guidance of her mother Anita Newman (one of Australia’s well known romantic impressionist artists).
Since then her artistic practice has grown with her, and today she continues to push the boundaries by ensuring that every artwork is fresh, new & authentically true to herself.
“I always work with the end result in mind”
Colour, texture and imagination are Newman’s main objectives. She works predominantly with acrylics, fascinated by the vivid colours & texture that are achieved by the medium. In her latest series – Chartered Waters – Newman draws upon her childhood spent on Sydney’s waterways with her family. Newman is inspired by authentic vintage nautical charts, onto which paints breathtaking pieces full of incredible colour & movement. Exclusively sold at KAB Gallery, the series tells the story behind each of the vintage nautical charts from various locations around the world.
Her works are part of private collections worldwide and commissions are welcome at KAB Gallery. With a library of vintage charts at hand, it’s also possible to custom-create an original piece on request.
